Big 12 Off to Another Running Start With Newcomers Skattebo and Conley Among League's Best

Stellar Recruiting Classes Making an Impact

Oklahoma State's Dominic Scaffone and West Virginia's Noah Short are also among the highest-rated true freshmen who've made a splash in the Big 12 this season.

Skattebo Leading the Way

Texas freshman Skattebo, who led all Big 12 freshmen in cross country last fall, won both of his races this season. Most recently, he was victorious at the Cowboy Jamboree in a time of 24 minutes, 3.9 seconds over 8 kilometers.

Conley Close Behind

Oklahoma State freshman Conley is also impressive with a season-best time of 24:31.9 over 8 kilometers at the Cowboy Jamboree. He has finished among the top 10 in all three of his races this season.

Other Freshmen Making an Impact

Oklahoma State's Scaffone and West Virginia's Short have also performed well in their first seasons. * Scaffone won the 6-kilometer race at the Missouri Cross Country Challenge to become the first Oklahoma State runner to win an individual title since 2018. * Short is a two-time All-American in the 1,500 meters who has transitioned well to cross country. He was 12th at the Cowboy Jamboree.

Big 12 Teams Loaded With Talent

The addition of Skattebo, Conley, Scaffone, and Short has made an immediate impact on the Big 12. With these talented newcomers, the conference should continue to be one of the strongest in the country.
